We do not upload it or save it in browser storage. Tools pages do not send analytics events. Normal requests are still needed to load the website and tokenizer files.
This counts raw text for the selected encoding. Chat message wrappers, tools, images, provider-specific formatting, and hidden system instructions can add tokens. Treat it as an encoding count, not a billing guarantee for every model or product. Special-token spellings are counted literally. Words are whitespace-separated groups; characters are Unicode code points. The context target is a budget you choose, not a claim about a particular model’s supported limit.

Does this give the exact billable token count?
It counts raw text for the selected encoding. Chat wrappers, tools, images, and hidden instructions can add tokens. This is not a universal count for every AI model or a billing guarantee.
What is the context target?
A budget you choose to compare against your text. It does not assert that a specific model supports that limit. The default encoding is o200k_base; changing it can change the token count.
Does this tool save my text?
No. Your input is processed in this browser tab, with no uploads, saved history, or analytics events on Tools pages. Clear an input to remove it and its result. Normal network requests load the page and its code. Copying a result puts it on your device’s clipboard, which is managed by your operating system.
